Dr. Akilu Indabawa

Dr. Akilu Sani Indabawa is a true giant in Nigerian academia and politics! Born on November 1, 1958, in Kano, he has had a distinguished career spanning multiple fields.

As an academic, Dr. Indabawa has taught at Bayero University Kano, producing numerous graduates with Master’s and Doctoral degrees ¹. His research interests include ideology, cultural relativism, and education in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the political economy of education in Nigeria.

Beyond academia, Dr. Indabawa has had a remarkable career in politics and governance. He has served as Special Adviser to the Governor of Kano State, Special Assistant to the Minister of Defence, and Director-General of the Kwankwaso/Ganduje re-election campaign. He was also a key player in the 2014 National Conference, serving as Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue.

Dr. Indabawa’s commitment to democracy and civil society is inspiring. He was a foundational member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and served as the party’s National Youth Leader. His activism during the Abacha era led to his imprisonment as a political detainee.

For his outstanding contributions, Dr. Indabawa was awarded the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (O.O.N.) in 2014.
