A Civic Engagement Activity by Adeoye Abiodun, EPLF 2023 Cohort Fellow
With an unwavering commitment to nurturing Civic Engagement, Adeoye Abiodun, a 2023 EPLF Cohort Fellow, orchestrated a thought-provoking debate on the impact of social media among the students of Sari Iganmu Senior Secondary School. The discussion, held on September 28, 2023, revolved around the theme: ‘The Use of Social Media has Done more Evil than Good to the Youth of our Nation.’ This transformative gathering, generously supported by LEAP Africa and the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund, attracted an audience of over 100 eager and engaged students.
The primary objective of this initiative was to inspire students to actively participate in critical thinking and meaningful dialogue.
Key Outcomes
The debate centered around the impact of social media on our nation’s youth, with SS3 students affirming the motion and SS2 students opposing it. In an impressive display of critical thinking, both sides presented compelling arguments, resulting in an even 50-50 score. This debate not only offered a platform for students to articulate their views but also fostered a culture of research, analysis, and effective expression among them.
Lessons Learnt and Recommendations
