A Civic Engagement Activity by Rita Otu an EPLF Fellow
In implementing her Civic Engagement Activity, on behalf of the FATE THEATER team, she visited the ItuMbunuso Community on the 11th of November, 2022 to speak with the women farmers, get them interviewed, and train them on climate-smart agricultural activities.
The general objectives of the training were to empower participants with knowledge and skills in regenerative farming, equip trainees with knowledge and skills in Climate Smart Farmer Field School methodology, and provide participants with the right tools for facilitating learning.
Outcomes
About 50 women were empowered to speak up on issues bothering them regarding food security and the challenge they face in the Agricultural sector. During the training stage, farmers were asked to speak on their challenges and recommendations for the government, and 4 challenges were identified.
Next Steps
A step toward the right direction is writing a legislative bill for the government to finance the Agricultural sector on climate change issues, and encourage women to speak up at all times.
