Ruth Ngoka
Dynamic Academic, Researcher, and Civic Leader
Dr. Ruth Obioma Ngoka is a dynamic academic, researcher, and civic leader with a solid foundation in Political Science, specializing in international relations, gender and development studies. A first-class graduate and lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), she skillfully connects academic theory with practical civic engagement. Her research has been published in reputable journals and presented at national and international conferences. She currently serves as Secretary of the Ethics of AI and Higher Education Strategy project team at UNN and is a dedicated student adviser.
In 2024, Ruth was a UNDP delegate to the YouthConnekt Africa Summit in Kigali, Rwanda recognizing her civic impact. She served as Project Manager for the Elevating Youth Voices, Building Trust, and Civic Cohesion initiative, implemented by the Network of Youth for Sustainable Initiative and funded by LEAP Africa. Under her leadership, the project strengthened youth engagement with lawmakers in Enugu East Senatorial District. The initiative produced two impactful policy briefs, offering actionable recommendations for stakeholders and policymakers. A practical engagement toolkit for lawmakers, aimed at strengthening youth-inclusive governance was also produced.
Ruth served as Team Lead and Education Activist for the SpeakUp StandOut project in Nsukka community, funded by VOICE and initiated by Network of Youth for Sustainable Initiative, where she championed inclusive education and grassroots advocacy. Beyond project management, Ruth mentors students, facilitates youth leadership programs, and actively contributes to Nigeria’s electoral processes. Her diverse experiences reflect deep-seated commitment to gender equity, participatory governance, and inclusive development.
She brings this wealth of experience to the Emerging Political Leaders Fellowship Programme, viewing it as a platform to deepen her understanding of Nigeria’s political system, enhance her leadership capabilities, and collaborate with visionary peers to enthrone ethical political leadership in Nigeria. Her goal is to drive sustainable, community-centered change across Nigeria and beyond.
